How to convert HEIC to WebP for Obsidian

    1. Add up to 5 HEIC or HEIF files (25 MB max each).
    2. Choose lossless or lossy compression, plus an optional max size preset.
    3. Click Convert to WebP, then download your files.
    4. Move the WebP files into your Obsidian vault and embed them as usual.

Why convert HEIC to WebP for Obsidian?

iPhones commonly save photos as HEIC files, which may not display reliably across every Obsidian setup. WebP provides a more compatible format while typically keeping file sizes smaller than comparable JPEG images.

This makes WebP useful for Obsidian vaults with lots of screenshots, photos, or other image attachments where keeping the vault size down matters.

    Notes

    • Lossless uses maximum WebP quality in your browser. It is not bit-perfect lossless WebP, but preserves the most detail without a quality slider.
    • Default size keeps the original dimensions. Presets only shrink images when the longest edge is larger than the selected value.
    • Multiple converted images download as a single ZIP file.
    • Large iPhone photos can take a moment to convert, especially on mobile.
